Meet LaToya

LaToya Abernathy graduated in 2003 from California State University San Bernardino with a BS in Kinesiology and in 2009 from Charles R. Drew University in Los Angeles, CA with a degree in physician assistant studies. After working as a licensed medical provider and relocating to Houston, TX in 2011, she found her passion for women’s health and ran a federally funded program providing pap smears and other women’s health services to medically underserved communities. She found her doula calling after hearing countless stories from patients, friends and family members about how traumatic and stressful their birth stories were, which prompted her to do more research and the results were astonishing! Birth is supposed to be sacred and compassionate, but her research showed otherwise. She is compelled and passionate about supporting, comforting and educating as a certified perinatal professional because everyone deserves to have their best birth.
